ENGINEERING DIRECTOR

We are currently in search of a Engineering Director to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA).
The Engineering Director is responsible for providing leadership for management of the engineering department (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, System, Innovation) to achieve objectives of output and quality, to ensure compliance with company policies, and to administer the disciplinary process. This position also involves planning team strategies and team development.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan long term strategies that include team goals, staffing levels and prioritization of these goals.
  • Exercise oversight on management of the engineering teams.
  • Take lead of financial planning and budgeting for engineering.
  • Focus on global strategy to align and integrate development in various company locations with the one in the U.S.
  • Create and fulfill objectives of growth and cost reduction in development.
  • Maintain high level knowledge of activities and tasks performed in engineering development.
  • Review and stabilize development processes and procedures for electrical, mechanical and software engineering.
  • Help create and grow effective resources for engineering development and oversee training and coaching.
  • Make technical decisions when engineering management cannot reach agreement.
  • Manage interfaces between engineering and other organizations both internal and external.
  • Work effectively with other management level positions to achieve general company objectives.
  • Have the ability to analyze and evaluate internal strengths and weaknesses and external threats and opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure developed plans are followed and maintained until completion.
  • Resolve technical, interpersonal and financial issues and offer effective solutions.
  • Develop resource plans and ensure that organization has proper time to react to insufficient resources.
  • Offer support and guidance to engineering managers.
  • Track and develop KPIs for engineering managers and communicate regularly the status of such items.
  • Objectively evaluate performance and conduct quarterly performance reviews and an annual review in accordance to company policy.
  • Support quoting of new business, this is not limited to only design. This support can include designing under time constraints in a cost effective and correct manner with close collaboration of cross functional teams locally and globally.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • 6+ years related experience in engineering and management.
  • Problem solving skills and negotiation skills.
  • Complete understanding of PPAP process and ability to offer guidance.
  • Advanced management skills, including planning and organization, and decision making.
  • Knowledge of the quality process (APQP).
  • Advanced verbal communication skills, including group presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, customers, and employees.
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports and other documents.
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Advanced technical knowledge in engineering, ability to communicate on a technical level with global development team.
  • Ability to set a professional example for others to follow.
  • Ability to be diplomatic and able to communicate effectively in the Marquardt organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position supervises engineering staff including managers.
