Description

At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.
Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.
From manufacturing and engineering to cybersecurity and space, we’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries – and working together to build a future we can all trust.
For over 40 year, our partnership with the Royal Australian Navy has been integral to our mission. As a trusted provider of engineering, sustainment, and lifecycle management services, we continue to play a crucial role in bolstering Australia’s sovereign capabilities.
In this exciting role, the Engineering Director will oversee all engineering activities, ensuring successful project delivery while driving Thales’ positioning as a thought leader. This position will strengthen industry partnerships and be accountable for delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions, particularly within the maritime sector and for the Royal Australian Navy.

YOUR EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams in defence or large-scale projects, preferably in maritime or navy contexts
  • Strong experience with electrical, electronic, communication, IT, and software systems, focusing on their implementation in maritime solutions
  • Excellent leadership skills, empowering and guiding teams in large matrix organizations
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities
  • Financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (CASA, DASR, LMSM), compliance requirements, and industry standards
  • Strategic mindset for developing and implementing effective strategies to strengthen thought leadership in the market
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) membership with IEAust or an equivalent organization
  • Eligibility to obtain an Australian Defence clearance
