Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working within our established engineering team, the role is based out of our Cardiff workshop. The purpose of the role is to accurately predict what it will take (time, material, labour, outside subcontract processes) to produce/upgrade or repair a part, and price it profitably, while staying competitive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications, understanding customer requirements, tolerances, and machining processes needed
  • Estimate material needs, selecting appropriate raw stock, factoring in waste, and obtaining material costs
  • Liaise with sub-contract companies to collate manufacturing costs required
  • Evaluate tooling requirements, and decide if new tooling or fixtures are necessary, adding them into the estimate as required
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, creating itemised estimates to cover material, labor, overhead, and profit margins
  • Liaise with sub-contract companies to ensure manufacturing deadlines are met and production/assembly sits within quality parameters.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure estimates are realistic and achievable
  • Monitor the costs at different stages of each project to ensure it stays within the estimated costs
  • Manage the sourcing suppliers and negotiating prices
  • Keep up to date with industry standards, technologies, and materials that impact cost
  • General other duties as required from time to time
