YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Master’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science with 6+ years of work experience
  • 7+ years of working experience
  • Strong functional knowledge of automotive thermal management system
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership
  • Hands-on proficiency with C or C++ or MATLAB/SIMULINK or Python
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading, mentoring, and guiding engineers
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and presentation skills
  • Experience in recruiting engineers and outside services
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Learning tools
  • Familiar with the commonly used SW and system verification environments (HIL)
  • Exceptional capability in conflict resolution and navigating challenging discussions

  • PhD in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 10+ years of work experience

We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Engineering Group Manager to lead Software Controls engineering team in the Propulsion Thermal Management ART. This ART is part of the VMEC-CB Software and Services group . This is a people leader role for a candidate with strong technical skills and will include responsib ility for developing , testing, and releas ing Control System and Architecture for all of GM’s Thermal Systems for BEV, PHEV and ICE Vehicles. You will work cooperatively with different software and controls teams within the ART and cross - functional ly with Hardware, Cabin Controls, HVAC Software, Diagnostics, VDDV, Thermal Engineering, HVAC Performance, Thermal System engineering, and Global Performance Integration to deliver world - class thermal controls and software.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Manage a group of engineers to develop and deliver control system architecture and models MATLAB/Simulink and C for propulsion thermal systems
  • Deliver models of different complexities and fidelity to the software team for software development
  • Drive testing at virtual, bench and EDV level to verify and validate the thermal control system architecture
  • Be hands-on by leading high-impact efforts and driving technical decisions or consensus across studies and projects
  • Serve as the champion and sole owner of technical excellence in controls architecture across the propulsion thermal system ART
  • Drive advanced concepts through developing modeling and testing capabilities to support novel studies
  • Support development of automated test scripts to continuously verify the functional capability of software for various functionalities
  • Support HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing and scripting efforts for the development of thermal control systems software
  • Proactively prevent issues, contain critical problems quickly, implement final fixes, and institutionalize corrective actions to eliminate systemic issues
  • Perform risk assessments and trade-off analyses to support informed decision-making
  • Ensure the engineering group follows Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles to perform work effectively
  • Ensure team members are positioned to meet cost, quality, and timing goals for deliverables
  • Create development and learning opportunities for employees and drive high levels of engagement
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for the team to add value (e.g., Continuous Exploration, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment)
  • Support recruiting, lead hiring efforts, and conduct performance reviews
  • Forecast and manage the group’s annual budget
  • Navigate ambiguity and change with proficiency and resilience
