Mō te Tūranga | About the Role The Engineering Lead role offers the chance to combine technical leadership with people management to drive engineering excellence in development teams. By aligning with business goals and focusing on team empowerment and engineering excellence, you’ll cultivate a high-performance culture and drive continuous improvement. This role can be based in Wellington or Auckland. It is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly. What are five day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? Technical Alignment: Ensure teams understand the technology strategy and priorities, aligning their efforts to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions that support business goals. People Leadership: Lead Engineers and Testers through all employee lifecycle stages—attraction, recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and offboarding. Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability to drive performance and alignment with business goals. Oversight and Standards: Drive engineering excellence across BNZ Technology by enforcing unified standards, focusing on secure coding, automation, and aligning on our approach to ensure quality and reduce technical debt. Support and Enablement: Guide teams in problem-solving, promoting innovative approaches for continuous improvement. Resource and Capability Planning: Ensure optimal workload distribution and skill alignment to meet both delivery and operational demands effectively. What is the team culture and environment like? Strong Technical Background: In-depth knowledge of software engineering principles, including solution design, development processes, and deployment. Risk and Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with security and regulatory practices in banking or similar industries. Planning Expertise: Proficiency across planning and delivery, with a record of effective cross-functional collaboration.
