Description
As the Engineering Manager – AI Governance working with our client, you will lead a team that is building and maintaining the infrastructure, services, and tools that power our clients AI Governance platform. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, platform engineering, and AI/ML governance — ensuring that model lineage, use-case traceability, risk assessments, and compliance workflows are robust, scalable, and future-ready. Lead and mentor a cross-functional engineering team (backend, data, platform) to deliver core governance capabilities. Architect and evolve microservices and APIs to support AI governance use cases: model registration, versioning, lineage, risk scoring, and audit workflows. Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and data governance teams to understand governance requirements and build appropriate abstractions. Own infrastructure decisions: containerization, orchestration (Kubernetes), observability, CI/CD, and reliability. Define and drive best engineering practices: code quality, performance, scalability, testing, and documentation. Partner with product management, security, and compliance to align on roadmap priorities, regulatory needs (e.g., EU AI Act), and risk mitigation. Participate actively in hiring, performance reviews, and growth planning for your team. Drive continuous improvement in processes — both technical and operational — to increase velocity without sacrificing governance quality. You have: 5+ years in software engineering, 2+ people leadership and management Solid experience with modern AI tools and leveraging AI to boost engineering productivity. Strong background in cloud-native SaaS (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and architectures (microservices, containers, CI/CD). Familiarity with Java, React, Postgres, and tools like GitHub, Jenkins, and Jira. Strategic, decisive, and transparent leader who thrives under pressure and drives results with a customer-first mindset. You must have work authorization to work in Brussels, Belgium.
