KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team in a 24x7 high traffic operational environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of database administration concepts, including Performance Tuning, Security, Scaling, Clustering, Backup and Replication.
  • Previous hands-on experience in an Operational Production DBA role utilising MySQL, MariaDB or Oracle
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience collaborating with other technical stakeholders such as developers and technical architects
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Experience utilising cloud platforms, preferably in AWS
  • Understanding of Linux, preferably CentOS or similar flavour
  • Any experience with administering NoSQL databases is beneficial, particularly MongoDB

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

This role will lead a high-performing team of Database Administrators (DBAs) responsible for the reliable and efficient operation of our critical transactional platform. In addition, you will have a leading role in innovating and developing how our digital products are designed through data solutions.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive operational excellence.

JOB DUTIES

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of DBAs.
  • Define and implement best practices for database administration, including performance tuning, service escalations, monitoring, security, and disaster recovery.
  • Oversee all aspects of database operations, including installation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, patching, and application development through data solutions.
  • Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate closely with development, architecture, and service teams to ensure smooth database deployments and integrations, best practice solution design, and achieve service SLA requirements.
  • Participate in capacity planning and resource allocation for the DBA team.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for all critical database systems.
  • Stay abreast of the latest database technologies and industry best practices implementing a programme of continuous improvement across our technology, processes, and team skills.
  • Support the wider live platform where applicable beyond just databases, including taking a key consultancy position on our new real time BI platform.
