The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and directing the North plant engineering team to ensure key improvement projects related to the optimization of manufacturing processes are identified, proposed, completed, and have a sufficient ROI to meet the business needs. Oversees the technical design, architecture, and implementation of features and systems. Manages and mentors a team of engineers, helping them grow their careers through regular feedback and development plans. Responsibilities: Identify best practices and direct/monitor their implementation Recommend process improvements in support of quality, efficiency, cost, and safety progress Ability to use SolidWorks, Mastercam for design and additive manufacturing. Clear understanding of engineering change management process. Collaborate with Product, Design, and other cross-functional teams to plan and prioritize the engineering roadmap. Own the execution and delivery of features, ensuring timelines, quality, and customer satisfaction. Identify and manage project risks and dependencies, escalating when necessary Support supplier PPAP evaluations and First article inspections in technical capability, supplier’s capability to justify cost, and meet delivery expectations Evaluate results of suppliers tooling samples, preproduction, and production runs for compliance to print and quality expectations Perform/direct testing and analysis of material and processes used in production Provide guidance and assistance to product development in the design and manufacturing of new instruments to ensure a zero loss launch to the launch curve into production. Work with product development to ensure a control plan is in place at Lunch into the factory. Manage variability reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives while sharing best practices across departments or multiple sites. Design and implement CAPEX projects with acceptable ROI delivering improvements in Quality and throughput Manage/supervise/evaluate the engineering staff Identify individual training/education needs of the engineering group. Develop/implement plans to satisfy those needs Drive efforts to maximize continuous improvement process in all areas of the plant operations with direct reports and as a member of the management team. Actively seek opportunities for innovation and modernization of processes to leverage future growth. Help shape engineering processes and contribute to company-wide engineering strategy and culture. Advocate for technical improvements, automation, and process refinement. Other duties as assigned by supervisor Qualifications: Engineering degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial discipline Ten years or more of experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment with engineering supervisory responsibility Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, CAD, CNC, and developing BOMs and routings Experienced and knowledgeable on a variety of metal removal and metal fabrication manufacturing techniques Proficiency in computer systems – MS Office, Solidworks, Excellent communicator, both spoken and written Good listener Detail oriented Ability to recognize and resolve problems Proven organizational and leadership skills Manage individual development by providing coaching, feedback, and reinforcement Team Building – Strong team player Results driven An ability to think ahead, plan, and prepare action plans to achieve results Proven ability to work with top-level executives and managers Contribute to discussions, actions and projects; respond positively to requests for information and suggestions Requires occasional overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air Excellent hearing and vision acuity Requires long periods of sedentary work Requires long periods of walking, standing Requires repetitive upper body movement – keyboarding and monitor use
