Join Alectra as an Engineering Manager, Distributed Energy Solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for technical oversight of Alectra’s Distributed Energy Solutions business, including supporting project development through identifying, qualifying and specifying innovative technology solutions, evaluating technical and commercial feasibility, conducting, supervising and reviewing in-house preliminary design activities, and providing detailed review of 3rd party detailed designs. The purpose of this position is to ensure Alectra is an industry leader in Energy Solutions to provide customers energy choices and to drive revenue and commercial success for Alectra.
What you’ll do
- Working collaboratively with business units within the company, business partners and other LDCs to identify, validate and implement energy technology solutions that support Alectra’s customers, including renewable energy, energy storage, geothermal, Combined Heat & Power plants, microgrids, etc.
- Acting as technical lead in all phases of project development, from technology assessment and preliminary design, through procurement, to detailed design, construction and commissioning.
- Working with and supervising internal technical resources to support internal feasibility studies, preliminary design, permitting and utility interconnection processes.
- Leading the development of technical specifications for procurement including major equipment and EPC services.
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain proposals and pricing, and specifying technology solutions for new project opportunities
Leading the interconnection processes with ISOs/RTOs/utilities including developing and filing applications, managing interconnection timelines, and reviewing the CIA/SIA study reports, evaluating the transmission and distribution upgrade costs, and negotiating the interconnection agreements and supporting active discussions with the utility interconnection teams.
- Supporting the discussions and contract negotiations with suppliers, vendors, and contractors for the delivery of products and services.
- Supporting the EPC teams, engineers and technical staff responsible for implementing projects through various phases of design and construction.
- Performing owner engineering technical due diligence for various design drawings, study reports and testing reports prepared by vendors, suppliers, EPC contractors and consultants.
- Managing commissioning and performance tests performed by suppliers and EPC contractors.
- Supporting organizational and process improvement initiatives.
- Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on new technologies and industry trends in both the electricity distribution system and end use (customer) applications.
- Supporting initiatives, changes and trends in industry and government while maintaining awareness throughout the company of the goals and activities for Alectra Energy Solutions.
- Monitoring and reporting changes to technology standards, regulations and industry legislations and/or regulation standards that impact Energy Solutions development.
- Participating in relevant industry and government work groups and conferences to share knowledge, enhance brand awareness, and form potential partnerships.

Who you are
Education & Specialized Knowledge
- Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline.
- Professional Engineering Designation required
- Strong knowledge of the energy and utility industries including new technologies.
- Strong knowledge of the electrical transmission and distribution systems and regulatory environment
- Knowledge of wind turbines, solar photovoltaic systems, natural gas generators, combined heat & power plants, energy storage systems, geothermal systems, microgrids, etc.
- Strong knowledge of energy technology integration, protection and control, including both behind-the-meter and grid-connected systems.
- Strong knowledge of market trends and changing customers’ requirements for energy management, energy supply reliability, and decarbonization.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in managing technical staff and leading projects.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the design of energy generation and storage systems, including utility interconnection experience.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the design of electrical distribution and/or transmission systems
- Significant commercial business development and project management experience.
- Significant Experience performing power system studies and working with electrical design software

- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
- Effective presentation and communication skills in a variety of formal presentation settings: one-on-one, small, and large groups, with customers, senior leadership team, peers, etc.
- Strong experience in leading projects and managing project budgets, strategic planning and developing proposals.
- Solid experience in planning, prioritizing, and executing multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines.
- Strong experience in building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong customer orientation and understanding.
- Adept at analyzing market and technology trends.
