Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to join our small team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our field engineering operations, ensuring the successful delivery of shot blast machine service and repair work to customers throughout the United Kingdom. This is mainly an office-based role, with the requirement also to attend customer sites. There is no option of hybrid working.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role. Practical experience is preferred over degree-level education in an engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in an engineering management role, preferably within the industrial field engineering sector.
  • Experience in writing engineering inspection reports and obtaining quotations from suppliers.
  • Ability to develop engineering drawings from which machined and fabricated parts and assemblies can be quoted and manufactured.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software preferred.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the field engineering team, providing training, guidance and expert support.
  • Oversee the planning, execution and delivery of shot blast machinery service and repair work carried out by Blastparts’ field service engineers at customer premises.
  • Communicate with customers to assess the need for machine inspection visits and prepare quotations for these visits.
  • Liaise with field engineers to ensure thorough machine inspections are carried out and accurate results are reported.
  • Using information, measurements and photographs supplied by customers and from Blastparts’ site visits, prepare detailed inspection reports, applying a traffic light system for prioritising work to be completed.
  • Obtain costings from suppliers of parts and estimate labour hours for completing the service and repair work.
  • Prepare drawings for unique machined parts and fabrications from which approved suppliers can quote pricing and lead times.
  • Work with Blastparts commercial team to prepare quotations for service and repair jobs.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, industry standards and best practices, including producing “Risk Assessment and Methods Statements” for each customer site visit.
  • Attend customer sites as required to ensure the highest possible quality of work is carried out by the field engineering team.
