REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent experience with 10-14 years of overall relevant professional experience
  • Proven track record of successful contribution to projects/products on the cloud
  • Self-motivated, curious, resourceful and flexible with an ability to learn quickly
  • Constructive and open style of communication: our teams are spread across the globe: Canada, Ukraine, Germany, India and China. An ability to work in such a cross cultural environment
  • Full stack development experience (Java/Go/Node.js/Python, HANA/Postgres/NoSQL DB expertise, Kafka, UI5/React JS/Angular, Spark/Hadoop, Docker & K8S, Prometheus, ELK, CI/CD Tools, Dynatrace)
  • Multi-Cloud experience (SAP Business Technology Platform/Azure/AWS)
  • Good knowledge of design and secure development principle
Responsibilities

THIS IS A HYBIRD ROLE BASED OUT OF WATERLOO. HYBRID IS 3 DAYS A WEEK ONSITE AND 2 DAYS A WEEK REMOTE.

We are seeking to onboard a hands-on Engineering Manager in our Digital Manufacturing team at SAP Labs Waterloo. The team is delivering innovations in the areas of Shop floor Manufacturing Execution, Edge computing, Analytics and AI/ML.
Our SAAS solution is based on event driven microservice architecture involving SAP Business Technology Platform, open source technologies, and AWS/Azure Hyperscaler services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Management, Coaching and Development:
  • Set clear goals with team members, inspire and support the team toward accomplishing these goals and evaluate goal achievements in a fair and constructive manner
  • Actively act as a coach and mentor to help with personal development (in Digital Manufacturing, apart from vertical growth opportunities, we would like for our teams to experience different areas of the solution over time, enabling horizontal growth opportunities as well)
  • Setup and constantly improve a high performing engineering organization that operates with high trust across roles, striving for best-in-class engineering processes
  • Support the success of direct team and employees within the larger unit
  • Help identify development opportunities and support team members in achieving their goals
  • Accountable for planning, design and realization of team’s backlog (functional, non-functional, incidents, ongoing maintenance)
  • Contribute to change management and drive continuous improvement and excellence initiatives within the engineering organization
  • Product Development:
  • Owner of the technical decisions within the engineering team
  • Collaborate with Product Management on prioritization of team backlog
  • Owner of compliance with software development processes and standards, regulations and legal requirements
  • Ensure clear definitions of “ready” and “done” are defined and adhered
  • Manage 3rd party contractors and supplier management for engineering resources
  • Prioritize and drive corrective and preventive actions via development product backlog to ensure product and service quality agreements are attained
  • Implement clear root cause analysis and learning procedures that enables a continuous improvement and excellence mindset
  • Define and align non-functional backlog items with Product Management and central architecture/quality/security teams
  • Identify and address delivery risks that may impact success of the product
  • Attend agile team ceremonies
  • Product Vision and Strategy:
  • Connect product vision, goals and requirements to organizational goals and help team members with translation of the vision into tangible individual and team goals
  • Partner with Product Management and User experience to translate the overall outcome-based roadmap and vision into a prioritized team backlog that drives execution action in the development team
  • Product Usage, Support and Customer Satisfaction:
  • Ensure service quality is continuously improved via continuous improvement, preventive measure and root cause analyses and adoption of industry best practices
  • Ensure supportability of the product (eg: telemetry, performance and health monitoring, EU only/man-in-the-middle support models, 24/7 DOD enablement across the globe)
  • Ensure adherence to support metrices and appropriate levels of support (Manager on Duty, Developer on Duty enablement, enrolling and supporting in the roster)
