Job Description Overview We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Manager - SDET to lead and mentor our Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) team. This role is crucial for scaling our engineering quality and ensuring a seamless, high-performance product delivery pipeline. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is passionate about quality culture, test automation, and driving continuous process improvement across the entire engineering organization. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Culture Evangelize a Quality-Focused Culture: Champion and drive a "Quality is everyone's responsibility" mindset across all engineering teams, influencing developers to adopt robust testing and quality practices early and throughout the development lifecycle. Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, manage, and mentor a team of high-performing SDETs. Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and facilitate career development and training plans. Define Quality Strategy: Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to define the overall quality strategy, objectives, and key results (OKRs) for the organization. Test Automation & Efficiency Improve Testing Efficiency and Practices: Constantly evaluate and refine existing testing processes to maximize efficiency, reduce time-to-market, and minimize post-release defects. Drive Automation: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and comprehensive automation frameworks for various application layers (UI, API, performance, security). Pipeline Excellence: Design and implement a robust and efficient testing pipeline that fully integrates automation into our Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) process. This includes integrating automated test runs, reporting, and quality gates. Tooling and Innovation Technology Scouting: Research, evaluate, and introduce new automated testing tools and technologies into the SDET team's toolbox to maintain a cutting-edge and efficient testing environment. Technical Architecture: Guide the team in creating high-quality, reusable, and maintainable test code and infrastructure. Reporting and Metrics: Establish and track key quality metrics (e.g., test coverage, defect leakage, automation ROI) and provide clear, actionable insights to engineering leadership. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 2+ years of experience managing/leading a Software Test, QA, or SDET team. Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience as an SDET or Automation Engineer with strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C#, JavaScript). Deep practical knowledge of designing, implementing, and managing test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Jest, Appium). Proven experience working within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and modern source control tools (e.g., Git). Strong understanding of software development methodologies, particularly Agile/Scrum. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
