Responsibilities

THE ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE

As we continue our mission to be the market-leading underwriting software platform for agile insurers, we are excited to kick off the search for a Engineering Manager.
As the Engineering Manager at Send, you’ll be given the opportunity to lead a cross-functional team of engineers, providing strong technical leadership and guiding the delivery of valuable products and services to Send’s customers. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, maintainable code and ensuring the team achieves their committed sprint goals.
Your role will involve coaching and mentoring cross-functional engineers and continuously improving agile practices and ways of working. Additionally, you’ll play a key role in influencing the technology strategy and leveraging data to drive improvements across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AS AN ENGINEERING MANAGER

  • Team Leadership: Lead a cross-functional team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor engineers, supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Sprint Delivery: Ensure the team delivers sprint goals and commitments.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to guide system design and architecture, ensuring alignment with defined standards.
  • Backlog Management: Work with the product manager to balance the team’s backlog, prioritising both the technical and product roadmaps.
  • Code Quality: Ensure the team delivers high-quality, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Non-Functional Requirements: Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements, such as security, reliability, and performance.
  • Agile Practices: Continuously improve the team’s ways of working and agile practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Technology Strategy: Influence the technology strategy, aligning it with the company’s goals and vision and the product strategy.
  • Data-Driven: Capture data on all aspects of the team’s performance and health to drive continuous improvement.
  • Developer Experience: Identify and address friction points across the SDLC to improve the developer experience and enhance productivity.

THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED FOR THE ENGINEERING MANAGER ROLE

  • Proven experience as a senior software engineer and Engineering Manager (or similar leadership role) within a technology-driven environment.
  • Strong technical background with experience in system design and architecture.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on supporting engineers’ professional growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical and product priorities.
  • Deep understanding of agile methodologies and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Experience in ensuring solutions meet non-functional requirements such as security, reliability, and performance.
