The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone’s experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
As an Engineering Manager, you will provide strong leadership and technical skills. It has been created in response to a significant increase in workload and team size due to a 15-month digital program of work that will increase the size of the Engineering team by several dozen people (both VPS employees and vendor resources). You will be leading and managing multiple software engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality projects and solutions.
For specific responsibilities please review the attached position description. This is a 15 months fixed term role, based out of our Footscray office with hybrid and flexible working options.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Robust experience managing multiple delivery teams.
  • Excellent ability to plan and collaborate to deliver projects through others.
  • Strong technical expertise. Your tribe’s stack is mostly AWS using Node.js, serverless technology (e.g., AWS Lambdas), React, MuleSoft, and Datadog, with some Java and Sitecore; other tribes also have Salesforce, Drupal CMS, and native mobile.
  • Experience working in hybrid Agile environments. (We use a mix of Agile, Waterfall, and SAFe practices..
  • Planning, recruiting, and onboarding new engineering delivery teams.
  • Mentoring and supporting deliver leads, principal QEs, and other senior technical roles to build leadership capability and succession planning.
