JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Director – Engineering and Quality, the Engineering Manager is responsible for directing the overall engineering function ensuring the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with the company quality standards and customer delivery requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded from time to time to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary. • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works in conjunction with the EHS Manager to establish and maintain all policies and programs to assure a safe working environment. Complies with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards. • Responsible for meeting or exceeding company performance metrics for driving improvement and making well informed decisions for manufacturing activities, resource allocation and strategic planning. • Develop, establish, and implement long-range and short-term strategies and operating policies to achieve established departmental goals and objectives. • Plan, organize, and schedule the work of department personnel. • Directly supervise the work force to ensure proper engineering principles and applications are followed and customer specifications are met. • Communicate directly with customers to determine needs and applications relative to special installations and adaptations. • Review staff designs and make recommendations to improve design, reduce cost, or increase production efficiency and verify dimensions. • Determine engineering hours and project costs to provide project estimates used in the development of quotes. • Confer with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. • Develop and submit reports to the President as to current status of projects, compliance to schedules, and budget maintenance. • Keep up to date on new developments in the field of engineering or product design. Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments and directly supervise the plant staff to ensure the achievement of production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with company quality requirements. • Supervisory Responsibilities – engineering team on-site. Evaluates employee performance, sets expectations and goals for department and individuals. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related field from a four-year college or university and 5 to 7 years of project engineering management experience. Must have experience working in or with manufacturing aerospace and/or defense industries, along with experience with titanium alloys. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to effectively communicate with other employees to share information, solves problems, and instructs or train lesser skilled employees. Must have the ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and short correspondence. Must be able to write standard reports and documentation. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires the ability to operate various equipment to include various precision measuring devices and lifting devices. Requires a broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices. Should be knowledgeable and/or familiar with applicable ISO/TS and quality system requirements and policies.
