Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

West Coast Pre Fab is a Chemainus based mechanical maintenance and fabrication company. Our shop team bids, details, fabricates and in many cases erects, hundreds of thousands of pounds of steel every year. Our field teams travel around Western Canada, installing and maintaining assets as a variety of industrial sites.
To expand our engineering team, we are looking for a driven Senior Engineer, Senior Design Engineer or Engineering Manager to manage a branch of our business.
This is a position for a senior designer who is ready to manage a small team and willing to push to grow the business. We have work supporting our fabrication and maintenance teams but must also develop outside clients. Daily tasks will involve managing engineering jobs through execution (scope development, estimating, planning, engaging technical folks, design, drafting, reports…) but we have a separate project management department for most physical construction.
Candidates must be experienced engineers with more than 10 years experience in Canada. All experience is considered, but to run a design business with Canadian codes and laws, 10 years in Canada in a related firm is required.
Candidates must be from a mechanical, civil, or structural discipline. We value all disciplines, but our business is construction and mechanical maintenance, so we won’t short list everyone..
We have worked hard to establish mechanical and structural design capabilities in intermediate and senior capacities. West Coast Pre Fab also has a team of Project Engineers across all skills to execute construction and maintenance projects.

A successful applicant would have experience with design engineering. Critically:

  • Safety
  • Project Risk
  • Constructability
  • Feasibility
  • Value to Client

This is a permanent full-time position with plenty of opportunity to take on stimulating, challenging and varied work across commercial and industrial sites and plants.
All those meeting the non-negotiable requirements are invited to apply but we may not be able to contact candidates not pre-selected. Please reach out if you want to discuss in addition to applying here, but our only short list is on this posting.

NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS

Good standing with EGBC as a P.Eng. (or able to transfer from another provincial body, not as an EIT or restricted, within 90 days, condition of employment)
BEng or BSc in engineering (or equivalent)
10+ years of Canadian design experience
Local to Cowichan or willing to relocate
Strong understanding of personal capabilities with respect to timeframes, scope of practice and risk
Emphasis on entrepreneurial spirit, growth is required to meet our minimum obligations

RECOMMENDED SKILLS

Attention to detail
Proficient in reading and interpreting structural, mechanical, and architectural drawings
Able to create drawings, enough to convey concepts or pass to designers or drafts people
Familiar with WorkSafe regulations an asset
Knowledges of CWB & AWS welding symbols an asset
Clear and concise communications with the client
Open and comprehensive communications orally and in writing with our team of estimators, detailers, project managers
