Description

We are currently looking for a Engineering Placement to join the team at Dutypoint for 12 months. This role will be based at our site in Gloucester.

Responsibilities

ROLE PURPOSE

This is a great opportunity for a university student to gain experience in industry. Projects will vary and may include new system design & development, service-related difficulties, and existing design and system component improvements. Most activity will be under the supervision of more experienced project engineers, but some independent work will be expected.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • 3D CAD modelling & 2D Drafting – Creating and modifying 3D models of components and assemblies using SolidWorks. Generating technical drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T for manufacturing.
  • Prototyping & Assembly Assistance – Assisting in 3D printing and other rapid prototyping methods to build early-stage prototypes. Helping assemble and test mechanical systems to evaluate design feasibility.
  • Engineering Calculations & Design Analysis – Performing basic calculations to validate design choices.
  • Manufacturing & Supplier Coordination – Collaborating with machine shops, vendors, and suppliers to ensure designs meet manufacturability and cost constraints. Learning about material selection and manufacturing processes like casting, injection moulding, vacuum forming and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Documentation & Design Reviews – understanding engineering reports, Bill of Materials (BOM), and revision histories. Participating in design reviews with senior engineers to discuss potential improvements and modifications.
