Scope
We are currently recruiting for a Project Coordinator position in the Sanitary Planning Section of the Engineering Department at the City of Surrey. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain diverse experience with an innovative team, undertaking large-scale planning activities, directing design of sewer conveyance and pumping facilities, developing and implementing sewer source control programs, and managing sewer infrastructure assets on one of Canada’s largest sewer collection systems.
The Project Coordinator is part of the Utilities Division and is a senior technical and administrative position that involves coordinating and managing inspection programs, rehabilitation projects, conducting asset management and source control activities, performing engineering analyses, conducting detailed reviews for servicing, undertaking planning-based engineering assignments, and interacting with design and construction projects.
Responsibilities
The major functions of the Project Coordinator in Sanitary Planning include: Developing and implementing data collection programs for sewer flow, odour control, and other programs. Performing data analysis and calculations from flow monitoring sites and other data sources to assess the extent of inflow and infiltration. Leading the inflow and infiltration inspection and rehabilitation program, including performing field investigations, managing contractors and consultants, and liaising with property owners and residents. Leading sewer planning technical assignments for Neighbourhood Concept Plans (NCPs) for areas of population growth and conducting detailed reviews of proposed sewer servicing and system replacements needed for development. Developing, operating, and maintaining sewer hydraulic models. Conducting detailed analyses on operational data for sewer performance. Leading the technical review of detailed design plans, contract documents and technical specifications, and providing advisory or direct roles in engineering design and construction projects. Leading technical work around asset management and renewals for the City’s sanitary infrastructure Coordinating with regional and neighbouring municipalities regarding administration and operation of sewer utilities. Developing work plans and managing external engineering services for sewer planning and management. Working with internal staff and other City Departments as well as liaise with Consultants, Contractors, Utility Companies, and other agencies to support sewer planning projects and programs. Training and mentoring junior staff and providing technical support to engineers and technical staff in the Utilities Division.
Qualifications
Completion of a two-year diploma or longer in a discipline of Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution. Registration or ability to register with the Association of Applied Science Technologists BC, or Engineers and Geoscientists BC.is an asset Five years engineering experience or longer with a demonstrated technical knowledge, skills and ability and supervisory experience in the relevant areas of civil engineering and/or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have technical expertise applicable to this specific role. A valid drivers’ license.
ASSETS INCLUDE: Knowledge of, or ability to learn ArcGIS, InfoWorks ICM, PowerBI and Microsoft Access, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). Being a team player with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Customer service experience and direct interaction with the public regarding civil engineering matters. Understanding and interpreting engineering plans and specifications; collecting and analyzing data. An ability and interest in undertaking both office and fieldwork related to sewer programs and investigations. Utility planning experience, linear infrastructure design or asset management would be considered an asset.
