Position Summary The Engineering Quality Lead is a lead individual contributor responsible for defining, governing, and evaluating quality systems across hardware and software development, production, and vendor ecosystems. This role serves as the primary quality authority across the product lifecycle, ensuring that quality expectations are clearly defined, measured, and continuously improved. Operating as a cross-functional partner rather than a people manager, this role works closely with engineering, production, supply chain, data analytics, and customer success teams to align quality standards, visibility, and outcomes. This role focuses on operational and product quality rather than regulatory certification ownership. Responsibilities Own the definition and evolution of quality management procedures spanning software development, hardware engineering, supply chain, and production Serve as the primary evaluator of quality performance for hardware and software initiatives, identifying systemic risks and improvement opportunities Lead vendor quality management efforts in partnership with supply chain, including requirements definition, issue escalation, and corrective action oversight Establish end-to-end quality tracking across the production lifecycle, working with production teams to ensure early detection and prevention of quality issues Partner with customer success to define and measure customer-perceived quality, ensuring feedback is translated into actionable improvements Act as the quality requirements owner for dashboards and reporting, working with the data analytics team to ensure metrics support decision-making and accountability Influence cross-functional teams to adopt consistent quality practices, providing guidance and alignment without direct ownership of execution Drive continuous improvement by identifying recurring quality patterns and coordinating preventative actions across teams Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or related technical field (or equivalent years of professional experience) Experience: Demonstrated experience operating as a senior or lead individual contributor in quality management across hardware, software, or integrated product environments Proven ability to design, implement, and evolve quality management systems rather than only executing audits or tests Experience defining quality metrics and acting as the requirements owner for reporting and dashboards Skills: Strong cross-functional leadership skills, with experience influencing engineering, production, supply chain, and customer-facing teams without direct authority Ability to assess complex, multi-team systems and make sound quality tradeoff recommendations Clear written and verbal communication skills, particularly in translating quality findings into executive- and team-level actions Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities Systems thinking approach to quality management Certifications/Licenses: None required (Quality-related certifications such as Six Sigma, ASQ CQE, or similar are a plus) Preferred Qualifications Experience working with external vendors or contract manufacturers on quality management and issue resolution Familiarity with customer experience or customer success workflows as they relate to product quality Background in both hardware and software environments, or organizations delivering integrated products Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives across engineering or manufacturing organizations Team Working Style Operates as a trusted partner and coordinator rather than a centralized gatekeeper Comfortable working across multiple teams and disciplines with differing priorities and workflows Values clear definitions, measurable outcomes, and continuous feedback over rigid process enforcement Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer Office setting with remote/hybrid flexibility Occasional travel may be required for vendor visits, production facility assessments, or team meetings (estimated 10-15%) Please Note Applicants must be permanently authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States.
