Job Description:
Summary:
The Engineering Residential College (ERC) Coordinator (ERCC) will provide essential academic advising to first-year students majoring within the College of Engineering (COE) and participating in the Engineering Residential College program. Working in collaboration with the ERC Rector, COE, and University College (UC), the ERCC will serve as the primary academic advisor for all students living in the ERC. The ERCC will assist with initiatives, including but not limited to programming/events, tutoring, and scheduling, focused in assisting students to persist to their second year. This retention focus aligns with the LSU Strategic Plan 2025 Supporting Student Success. The ERCC in the COE will also provide career and professional school advising to the ERC students.
40% Services as primary advisor for students in the ERC. Explains the University and College of Engineering’s academic procedures, regulations, and degree requirements. Organizes and presents group advising/academic sessions for ERC students.
Works with the ERC Rector to manage the ERC student ambassador program and faculty council program. This will include supervising up to 20 student volunteers annually, coordinating with up to 11 faculty members, and coordinating ERC participation
20% Provides academic advising to first-year COE majors in the ERC. Services include, but are not limited to: reviewing academic plans and creating flowcharts and/or saved schedules as recommended academic paths to graduation, explaining and assisting with LSU and COE academic regulations, COE Senior College requirements, course scheduling, and comprehensive Academic Tracking critical requirements. Provide career and professional school advising to first-year students.
10% Assists with recruitment communications, including but not limited to ERC decision letters and responding to questions concerning advising or general ERC acceptance guidelines. Assigns required cohort classes to each student. Aiding in advising students admitted to the ERC, including but not limited to building schedules, ERC course advising, and direct student communication.
10% Works with the COE recruiting office to assist prospective COE students who are considering living in the ERC. Participates in COE recruiting programs. Assists with admission application process and decisions for the ERC which can include: reviewing applications, make routine administration decisions based on published guidelines and communicate admissions decisions to the ERC Rector and Department of Residential Life, monitoring Residential Life admissions reports for accuracy, maintaining records of admission cancellations, housing interest changes, etc.
10% Aids in coordinating or supporting academic services and programs to assist with COE and University retention efforts targeting COE first-year students, specifically defined as high priority or when grades become a concern. Assists in planning and participates in onboarding of first-year classes, including but not limited to giving presentations, advising and preparing schedules, training faculty advisors, participating in recruitment events, and Welcome Week.
5% Participates in all COE programs such as Diploma Ceremonies, Honors Convocation, and Geaux Engineering events. Attends and participates in professional development. Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
5% Meets weekly with the ERC Rector to plan, implement, create reports, and review programs and services. Participate in all ERC programs (as necessary). Attends meetings of the Engineering Residential College Committee. Monitors ERC student schedules throughout the Summer (before starting at LSU), Fall, and Spring semesters to ensure compliance with cohort class policy. Provides academic intervention for low test grades, midterm grades, and final grades. Provides the ERC Rector with information to include in the ERC newsletter to current ERC residents.
