In this position... Apply engineering principles & analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products. What you will do ... Perform metallurgical testing and evaluation of gears and axle components Support batch and release decisions through metallurgical verification Investigate heat treat and material-related quality issues Provide metallurgical expertise for root cause investigations Partner with quality and manufacturing teams to ensure compliance with specifications Maintain accurate metallurgical records and test documentation Implement interim and permanent corrective actions to resolve quality issues using 8D tool, 6 panel, etc. Manage and direct statistical process control activities Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations. Knowledge of and ability to execute measurement systems analysis & variable data analysis Identify sources of variation within a production environment effectively and efficiently Establish tolerance limits and facilitate appropriate corrective actions Establish and monitor quality target levels for each build Provide input for design and assembly concepts which will yield nominal variations Establish critical characteristics for gauging and measuring data collection methods Determine inspection equipment and facility requirements Support expedited concern resolution with cross functional teams including the Quality Department, Production and Suppliers Review internal/external suppliers for critical characteristics process compatibility Review incoming quality concerns to maintain quality with assigned area; must have experience with initiating containment, determining root cause and implementing corrective actions. Conduct metallurgical evaluations for functional trials and launch of new product lines Execute metallurgical failure investigations using metallurgical equipment (microscopes, hardness testers, metallographic specimen preparation, etc.) Collaborate with production and engineering on process improvements relating to heat treat and welding Assist with and address metallurgical concerns related to IQ and process issues Collaborate with suppliers on process improvements Have knowledge of industry metallurgical tests (metallography, tensile testing, hardness testing, etc.) You'll have... Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. 3–7 years of experience in metallurgical or materials engineering within manufacturing Experience supporting heat treat processes and metallurgical verification Experience working in a production manufacturing environment knowledge of weld evaluation (various steels and alloys) Even better, you may have... · Bachelor’s degree in STEM field · Advanced Heat Treat Experience · Lapping & Gear Finishing · Failure Analysis: performing fracture analysis and investigating · Certifications (ASM Heat Treating Society training, ASM Materials Engineer certification, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and Six Sigma Green Belt · Analytical Tools: SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), Image analysis software and statistical analysis software · Industry Knowledge: Experience with AGMA gear standards and interpreting material and heat treat specifications You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
