Job Introduction

Two opportunities are available for Engineering Specialist’s in the Projects team, based at Derby. Reporting to the Team Manager, the Engineering Specialists will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of a combination of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the distribution network and at non-operational sites up to and including 132kV.

  • Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities

  • Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the 132kV and 33kV network.
  • The management and control of project work involving plant, overhead and underground systems including:
  • Project Safety (inc. CDM)
  • Project Finances
  • Project Related Network Risk
  • Procurement and Contractor Management
  • Undertake operational duties on the distribution network, including the issuing of safety documentation up to 132kV.
  • Issue planned shutdown notices, make appointments with customers.
  • Exercise leadership. Request assistance when outside capability or authority.
  • Manage own short-term work programme to meet changes in circumstances, within constraints.
  • Assist with the assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
  • Advise other team members on innovations in electricity network management and automation systems.
  • Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
  • You will be required to undertake the Standby Duties on a rota as part of this appointment.

The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a practical knowledge of protection and control systems, including the commissioning of such equipment and should also be familiar with specifications for plant. This role will involve significant technical challenges.
You will have a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 and if not already attained will be required to undertake HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
You’ll ideally be a Senior Authorised Person with experience working in a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Independent DNO (IDNO) or Independent Connection Provider (ICP).
You’ll also have demonstrable experience in working in a high hazard industry where health and safety is paramount and conversant with construction management regulations (CDM 2015). Also essential is experience of formally managing and reporting on projects and project related finances.
Candidates must be self-motivated, adaptable, demonstrate a high level of autonomy and work effectively under pressure. The role demands the highest standards of quality whilst maintaining a safe and disciplined working environment. The successful candidate must be mobile throughout the network services area and will be required to undertake standby duties in accordance with a pre-determined rota.

EVIDENCE OF YOUR QUALIFICATIONS WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT.
