We are seeking a motivated Engineering Student to join our Bitumen Production Sustaining Capital and Facilities team. You’ll be part of a dynamic team where you’ll strengthen your problem-solving skills by tackling real-world challenges in both project and facilities engineering. You’ll support the execution of multi-disciplinary capital projects and help identify and implement solutions to improve the performance and reliability of our bitumen production facilities.

Working under the guidance of the Lead Project & Facilities Engineer, you’ll gain hands-on experience in engineering, project management, and field construction. You’ll contribute to the successful delivery of capital projects—on time and within budget—while supporting operational efficiency and the ongoing optimization of existing facilities across various business areas.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, AB – Albian Sands or Horizon Mine Operations
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours/day (Monday - Thursday)
  • Term lengths: 12 or 16 months
  • Term start: May 2026

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop detail engineering by the in-house and 3rd party engineering contractors ensuring all engineering deliverables and contractual obligations are met
  • Participate in various internal project activities including HAZOPS, 3D model reviews, procurement activities, deliverables review process, ensuring that all required information for the contractor is adequate and timely
  • Assist the construction group in the proper review and resolution of all engineering and technical issues that arise outside the approved engineering design
  • Database development and organization
  • Maintenance of project engineering tools and templates (Word, Excel, Maximo, etc.)
  • Field walk downs during construction and measure construction progress
  • Contract formation and manage change order to support construction
Responsibilities
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred, all other disciplines will be considered
  • Good knowledge of the basics of Excel and analytical skills
  • Good understanding of pressure vessels, pressure piping and valves
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive aptitude
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
  • A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
