ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF THE ENGINEERING SUPPORT FITTER TURNER

  • Experience and knowledge as a Mechanical Fitter Turner
  • Experience with manual milling machining
  • Experience with using blueprint drawings and fault finding
  • Knowledge of toolmaking would be desirable

  • SVQ Level 3 or equivalent / Time served modern apprenticeship, in relevant Mechanical Fitter Turner setting.

THE ROLE

As a Engineering Support Fitter Turner, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will undertake mechanical fitting activities, component manufacture, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all RN and other entitled Vessels and, when required, in other sections including the Estate.

Day-to-day, you’ll ensure the completion of all planned preventative maintenance and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business.

  • Be responsible for the identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of HMNB Clyde Submarines, Surface Vessels and the Estate.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity in accordance with set objectives and timescales.
  • Work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policies.
  • Operation of machine tools and other workshop machinery.

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday - Thursday and is based on site at HMNB Clyde.
