Description

About MetalBear
We’re building mirrord, the open-source tool that lets developers run their local code as if it’s already deployed in the cloud. This lets them test and debug in the real environment with the speed of local development.
MetalBear is remote-first, early-stage, and product-led.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Team Lead to take charge of the mirrord Core Team. mirrord’s core functionality works by hooking into the local process’ low-level system calls and seamlessly blending it into a remote Kubernetes workload. Building this part of the product requires strong grasp of OS internals, process behavior, and low-level systems programming.
This role blends technical leadership, individual contribution, and mentorship. You’ll shape the architecture, build features, grow your teammates, and help us scale mirrord to more use cases and environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of mirrord’s hooking engine.
  • Work deeply with libc, macOS and Linux internals, and Kubernetes.
  • Set the technical direction for the team and maintain high engineering standards.
  • Help prioritize work, unblock engineers, and drive roadmap execution.
  • Hire and mentor engineers as the team grows.
  • Collaborate directly with users to gather feedback, debug issues, and shape technical priorities.
  • Stay hands-on and actively contribute to the codebase.

Requirements:

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 1 year of experience leading engineering teams.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience writing production-grade code in Rust, C++, or C.
  • Expertise in Linux/macOS internals, syscall hooking, dynamic linking, or similar techniques.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native environments.
  • Comfortable working async in a remote-first, startup environment.

Why MetalBear?

  • Join a small, high-caliber team solving hard technical problems.
  • Shape the future of cloud-native development.
  • Work on an open-source product used and loved by real developers.
  • Remote-first, async-friendly, and low on meetings.
  • Competitive salary, stock options, and a culture that respects your time.
