JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an individual to fill a hybrid on-site/off-site position as an Engineering Technical Writer to support documentation development, quality control, structure, and governance. The consultant will work closely with subject matter experts, project managers, and process owners to create content for the engineering documentation and knowledge repositories, and collaborate to keep them current, well-organized, and aligned with departmental standards and Agency brand. Support will be provided through SharePoint and internal Port Authority applications and tools.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
  • Proven experience in technical writing within engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
  • Experience with Adobe tools for managing PDFs, and creating documentation (Adobe reader, editor, InDesign)
  • Experience using process mapping or diagramming tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Miro or similar.
  • Proven experience with document management platforms such as SharePoint or OpenText, including basic file structure, metadata tagging, and permission management.
  • Strong understanding of document lifecycle practices, version control, and naming conventions

REQUIRED SOFT SKILLS

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to structure complex information clearly.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Independent worker, requiring minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

PREFERRED TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience using Enterprise Content Management systems at an administrator or advanced user level (e.g., configuring metadata fields or managing large libraries).
  • Proficiency in screen capture and video editing tools such as Loom, Snagit, or other modern alternatives.
  • Experience with structured content development and template management.
  • Experience working with large public agencies or utilities is a plus
    Job Type: Contract
    Pay: $37.69 - $45.39 per hour
    Expected hours: 40 per week
