Join the dedicated team at NCDOT’s Materials and Tests Unit, where we ensure the highest quality of materials for roadway construction across North Carolina. About Us: Our Unit is dedicated to establishing acceptance criteria for materials and manufactured products, ensuring they meet the highest standards and function as intended. We play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the North Carolina Highway System, in accordance with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Regulations. Your Role: This position plays crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of asphalt paving mixtures used in North Carolina's highway system. Key Responsibilities: •Conducting tests on asphalt paving mixtures to ensure quality and compliance. •Collecting, analyzing, computing, and processing test data with precision. •Performing ongoing testing of asphalt materials from production plants and field projects within North Carolina’s highway system. •Maintain and ensure the cleanliness of laboratory equipment. •Assist the lead testing technician in upholding AASHTO re:Source accreditation standards. •Collaborate with the Bituminous Materials Technical Workgroup to evaluate and test new products and provide input for inclusion on the Approved Products List. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09 $39,671.00 - $69,426 Management prefers applicants with the following: Knowledge of engineering theories, techniques, practices, and procedures relating to construction materials, sampling and test procedures. Experience in the use of applicable software including Microsoft Office. Experience coordinating and communicating effectively with other team members to achieve a common goal. Experience creating and maintaining routine written programs, records and reports. Experience safely handling laboratory equipment.
