About the Role: As the Regional Laboratory Lead Technician, you will play a crucial role in performing various tests on materials used in the construction of North Carolina’s roads and bridges. You will become proficient in all tests that pertain to evaluating the quality of plant produced asphalt as well as aggregates that make up this asphalt, and other materials to ensure they meet NCDOT specifications. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, operating equipment, and working in a team environment to assess material quality and support construction operations. Key Responsibilities: •Oversee and mentor lower-level lab technicians. •Operating various pieces of laboratory equipment. •Input test data into HiCAMS and maintain an in-house Microsoft Excel database. •Assist in arranging daily work schedules for lab technicians at various testing stations. •Maintain the laboratory equipment inventory list and ensure all equipment is in good working condition. •Coordinate routine maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment. •Perform the required routine calibration of testing equipment. The successful candidate will have strong work-ethic standards with a technical background in engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively communicate concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel. Must have the ability to lift samples and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to wear safety glasses and other personal protective equipment. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC11 $43,738 - $76,542 Management prefers applicants with the following: Knowledge of techniques, practice, and testing procedures related to various materials Experience in the use of applicable software including Microsoft Office products, databases, and data analysis, including laboratory information systems or similar laboratory result entry systems Experience coordinating and communicating effectively with other team members to achieve a common goal. Experience in creating and maintaining routine records and reports. Experience safely handling laboratory equipment.
