Description JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY: The Engineering Test Technician supports the development, build, and validation of prototype hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, and electrical systems. This position plays a key role in bringing new product concepts to life by assembling, testing, and documenting prototypes under the guidance of engineers and supervisors. Working hands-on within JEM’s Orono facility, the Engineering Test Technician collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure that test results and prototype builds meet functional, performance, and safety requirements. This role also contributes to process improvements, lab maintenance, and the implementation of new testing technologies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Prototype Build and Assembly Build prototype components, assemblies, and systems, including hydraulic manifolds, integrated hydraulic/electronic assemblies, and electrical harnesses according to engineering documentation. Assists in interpreting drawings, schematics, and instructions to ensure accurate prototype builds Works with engineers to identify and resolve assembly or design issues during prototype fabrication. Testing and Validation Sets up and conducts performance and validation tests for prototype and customer systems. Operates hydraulic and electro-hydraulic test benches, instrumentation, and data acquisition equipment. Collects, records, and reports test data accurately; assists engineers in analyzing test results. Ensures safe testing procedures and maintains awareness of pressure, fluid, and electrical safety standards. Process and Documentation Support Documents build and test procedures, results, and any deviations observed during testing. Supports the development and implementation of new test procedures, fixtures, and tools. Assists with engineering change documentation, prototype part tracking, and PDM/ERP entries as directed. Cross-Functional Collaboration Works closely with design, applications, and manufacturing engineers to support prototype builds and testing activities. Assists assembly and machining teams with troubleshooting and process improvements. Supports quality assurance activities, including containment, rework, and verification testing. May occasionally support customer site visits for testing, troubleshooting, or repair activities. Other Duties Performs preventive maintenance and calibration on test equipment and related systems. Assist in identifying and procuring new test equipment and technologies to improve capability and efficiency. Safety and Quality Commitment: Prioritizes safe work practices and adherence to ISO, OSHA, and AWAIR standards. Consistently contributes to maintaining high product and process quality standards. QUALIFICATSIONS: Vo-tech certificate or Associate’s degree in Fluid Power, Mechatronics, or related technical field required. 1–3 years of experience in a testing, assembly, or prototype environment preferred. Basic proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD software. Familiarity with hydraulic circuits, electrical schematics, and data acquisition systems. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and common engineering applications. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on assembly experience. Valid driver’s license, ability to drive independently, and maintain a safe driving record. Ability to travel up to 15%.
