ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

We’re currently recruiting an Engineering Technician on behalf of a well-established manufacturing company. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team in a high-performing production environment, where your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and reliability of plant equipment and facilities.
Location: Naas, Co. Kildare
Salary: €45,000-48,000 per annum (DOE) + 10% shift allowance for evening shift
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent | Weekly rotation of Days then Evenings- 06:00-14:30/14:30 - 23:30

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Third-level qualification in Engineering or time-served Electrician/Fitter (Electrical or Mechanical discipline). A mechanical qualification/experience is advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a maintenance or engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in planned and reactive maintenance, with hands-on problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and Food Safety standards (BRC, ISO).
  • Practical experience with motor control systems, pneumatics, temperature control systems, and safety isolation procedures.
  • Familiarity with PLC/PC control systems and automation technology.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-demand setting.
  • Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide both reactive and planned maintenance support across the full production site.
  • Install and commission new plant and equipment, troubleshoot technical faults.
  • Conduct basic programming and diagnostics on machinery and automation systems.
  • Drive equipment uptime and reliability, minimising downtime across production and utility areas.
  • Execute and improve the site’s preventive maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot and support PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Deliver technical support across all plant utilities including compressed air, refrigeration, HVAC, and packaging lines.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for equipment upgrades, installations, and modifications.
  • Ensure full compliance with cGMP, safety, and quality standards.
  • Participate in Health & Safety initiatives, including risk assessments, Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and training for the wider maintenance team.
  • Monitor machine performance, support line operations, and provide call-out and shift coverage as needed.
  • Oversee and coordinate on-site contractors to ensure safe and effective work execution.
  • Support the Engineering Department with downtime analysis and strategies for performance improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
