POSITION SUMMARY:

This Engineering Technician Specialist position is located in Topeka, KS. The person in this position is a technician in the Pavement Evaluation group of the Pavement Management Section and provides technical support and directs field supervision for pavement performance evaluation activities. The Engineering Technician Specialist participates in various pavement condition surveys related to surface and structure, is responsible for maintaining and operating specialized pavement testing equipment in the field, and works closely with other group members as a lead worker and subordinate. This position also requires overnight travel up to ten months of the year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of experience in engineering technical support.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
  • General computer skills related to operation and data entry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General computer skills related to control system operations.
  • Mechanical skills related to automotive repair.
  • Experience operating computer controlled specialized test equipment.

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Schedules workers and work for pavement surface data collection to meet Kansas State Highway project programming needs and federal reporting requirements.
  • Assimilates, analyzes, and reports on collected data and advises supervisors of any problems or special considerations.
  • Coordinates reporting of surfacing projects between field and headquarters to track when projects will occur and when they are open to unrestricted traffic.
