Description:
QUALIFICATIONS
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
For GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-04 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as preparing general layouts for engineering and geologic drawings using CADD software. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR A combination of specialized experience and education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for the position. Your education must have included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
For GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-05 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as drafting assignments assisted in engineering projects and investigations; using Civil Engineering design software; and serving on a team of Engineers and Engineering Technicians producing drawings for use on a variety of construction and rehabilitation projects; OR Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education that is related to the position being filled.
For GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-06 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as Use of CADD software to prepare sketches, drawings, diagrams and charts; use of Civil Engineering software to design and document transportation, water or hydroelectric systems; and drafting technical documentation of engineering work by conducting research, collecting data and writing reports. OR Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education that is related to the position being filled.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 03/30/2023.
EDUCATION

Responsibilities:
DUTIES
- Prepares general layouts, engineering designs, geologic drawings and cost estimates for projects such as dams, power-plants, pumping plants, transportation, building construction, recreational areas and irrigation distribution systems utilizing standard methods as established in Directives and Standards, design standards, geologic standards and manuals.
- Receives direction from Reclamation engineers/geologists and higher graded technicians when significant deviation from standard practices are required. Identifies and evaluates alternative engineering plans for accomplishing project purposes established by engineers. Exercises judgment and makes recommendations to engineer on most effective plans for accomplishing the project purpose.
- Performs engineering computations and checks computations performed by division engineers by compiling and computing quantities from final drawings, lists and extracting engineering data from records, specifications, drawings, tabulations, etc. Prepares narrative statements explaining methodology of calculations and sources of data as needed.
- Utilizes Autodesk Data Platform (ADP) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems to develop methods to accomplish engineering oriented work such as Bureau specifications and engineering drawings and designs. Develops and uses state-of-the-art methods with PCs, CADD, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other specialized engineering software to accomplish duties.
- Works with and maintains contacts with higher graded technicians, computer specialists, engineers, geologists and other Regional and Area Office Staff to accomplishing duties.
