JOB SUMMARY:
Under routine supervision, this position is responsible for participating in engineering and technology tasks as part of an assigned team and may have the opportunity to gain exposure to other disciplines. This position is designed to give students the opportunity to extend their classroom learning and receive industry experience with a minimum of 18 hours a week during the semester and up to 40 hours a week when classes are not in session. The Engineering and Technology Internship at J.B. Hunt is different than most internships, in that it is a year-round internship.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key Responsibilities: • Expand knowledge of the transportation industry and related systems • Perform limited analysis and design tasks • May troubleshoot and address bugs and problems with assistance from senior team members • May develop an understanding of processes associated with the organizational software development lifecycle through participation and specialized training • May gain awareness and knowledge of quantitative methods, computer programming, optimization, and/or solution design to support data analysis • May assist with solving problems related to process improvement by analyzing internal and external data, including, but not limited to operations, pricing, financial, and customer information • May develop scripts and automation of infrastructure processes in areas such as cybersecurity, database engineering, or cloud under senior engineer guidance • May learn to diagnose systems problems
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled in a technology related degree program such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or Industrial Engineering at an accredited academic institution. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75, with a 3.0 in the major field of study. Be able to work at least 18 hours a week during the school semester.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled (or have just completed) a course of study in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, or applicable degree field at an accredited university or junior college along with prior Application Development Internship experience at J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc.
