POSITION: English EL/MLL teacher w/ Secondary CertificationLOCATION: Rogers High SchoolREPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of English LearnersSCHOOL YEAR: 2025/2026 POSITION: Secondary English EL/MLL Teacher @ Rogers High School JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible secondary grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with all students; to motivate, and develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, by each students language proficiency ability: and to establish good relationships with parents, staff members, and their administrators.EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Hold a valid Rhode Island Certification as a Secondary Grades English Teacher, Grades 7-12Must hold a valid RI Certification with either: All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12ESL Specialist/Consultant, Grades PK-12Experience teaching English Learner students preferredEvidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process;Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate.Successful completion of the Science of Reading TrainingRESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches courses in English Language Arts (ELA) utilizing the school departments curricula, appropriate learning activities, and instructional technology;Employs a variety of English as a Second Language (ESL) methodologies and instruction media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved; pulls EL students for Tier 2 or 3 groups for English Language Development (ELD)/Academic Language Development (ALD) supportDevelops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;Provides individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects may be worked on simultaneously;Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction;Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports;Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program;Identifies students needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems;Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers;Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities;Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records;Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program;Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom;Participates in curriculum development programs as required;Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities;Facilitates WIDA Screening and ACCESS testingPerforms such other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or designee at Rogers High School.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.Applicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
