JOB SUMMARY

Jersey CUSD #100 is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing who works with students with
hearing loss attending their home school and other educational sites. The teacher will provide direct
services per the IEP process to those students who have identified hearing loss; serve as a consultant to
school personnel; evaluate students who have been referred through the appropriate channels; and promote
interest in and an understanding of the implications of a hearing loss. The educator will provide specialized
instruction and services to meet the unique educational needs of students with hearing impairments ages
3-21.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with hearing

impairments

  • Use sign language, lip reading, and other communication techniques to teach students
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs and interests of

students

  • Collaborate with other educators, parents, and specialists to develop and monitor students’ progress
  • Provide auditory training and speech therapy in conjunction with other specialists
  • Assess students’ abilities and craft suitable learning goals
  • Modify curriculum to ensure accessibility for hearing-impaired students
  • Utilize technology and assistive devices to enhance learning and communication
  • Conduct regular evaluations to measure the effectiveness of teaching strategies and make

necessary adjustments

  • Provide support and counseling to students to foster emotional and social development
  • Organize activities and learning experiences that promote student engagement and interaction
  • Maintain accurate and thorough student records and reports
  • Conduct parent conferences.
  • Adhere to school district policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A valid Illinois professional educator license issued pursuant to 23. Ill. Adm. Code 25.43 and endorsed for teachers of
students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
