English Learner Literacy Teacher/Coach Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal and the Director of English Learners, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing a district approved phonics program to support students English Language Development (ELD) and address specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment while providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, activities, and expectations. Performance ResponsibilitiesDevelops and administers explicit and systematic phonics-based instruction to support students English Language Development consistent with school and district goals and objectives.Connect phonics instruction to WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and Common Core State Standards.Coaches middle and high school English Learner teachers with implementing phonics-based instruction.Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning.Supports building with administration of ACCESS testing.Maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and attendance as required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association.Participate in faculty and department, and/or district committees and meetings required by the CBA agreement between the Medford Public Schools and the Medford Teachers Association.Maintain records and student data as needed by the EL/Title III Department.Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.Familiar with WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards, ACCESS testing and UFLI Foundations phonics program.Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents and administrators.Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building on the strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning processAbility to collect and interpret data for instructional purposesExcellent written and oral communications skills in EnglishAbility to engage in self-evaluation process with regard to performance and professional growth as required in the CBA agreement between the Medford Teachers Association and the Medford Public Schools.Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred.Qualifications ProfileValid Massachusetts teacher certification in ESL and Elementary Education or ESL and Reading SpecialistBachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.Masters Degree preferred.ExperienceSuccessful teaching experience with newcomer EL students as well as other levels of English proficiency
