EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education;
  • Valid teaching license, certificate, or provisional permit in Québec, or equivalent from another Canadian province;
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

A HUMAN AND GROUND-LEVEL ROLE

The Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Center is a unique organization that provides culturally appropriate healing services to the Nunavimmiut community and their loved ones regarding trauma and substance use while staying connected to their culture. Rooted in ancestral Inuit knowledge and enriched by modern therapeutic practices, Isuarsivik embodies an innovative model of collective recovery.

YOUR ROLE

Under the authority of the Inuit Values and Practices Manager and the daily supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator, the Teacher is responsible for following lesson plans and supporting the assessment of students according to the learning outcomes. The Teacher monitors student performance and behavior while maintaining a positive learning environment.

THE TEACHER PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE BY:

  • Managing the classroom and ensuring that there are no gaps in the learning process;
  • Ensuring the students’ safety at all times;
  • Maintaining a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom in line with school procedures;
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure that all services and activities offered by Isuarsivik are culturally adapted;
  • Promoting and embodying the organization’s values with colleagues, guests, and all stakeholders;
  • Implementing wellness and safety practices to foster a positive and stimulating work environment for everyone.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise with the student’s home community teacher and school board to finalize the lesson plan for their stay at the Centre, provide updates, and prepare a reintegration plan;
  • Manage students appropriately, minimize distractions, and encourage participation;
  • Provide individual attention to students, ensuring they understand the educational material and addressing any questions or concerns;
  • Supervise students in class, during activities, and during breaks;
  • Assign homework based on the school curriculum;
  • Monitor the students’ performance and behavior, and report any areas of concern;
  • Communicate in a friendly and positive manner with parents, students, clinical staff, and administrators;
  • Maintain records of attendance, accidents, and incidents;
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times;
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
