Description Entry-Level Diesel, Trailer & Off-Road Equipment Technician At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. The Entry-Level Diesel, Trailer & Off-Road Equipment Technician supports maintenance operations by assisting experienced mechanics and performing routine service tasks. This position is responsible for fueling, washing, lubricating, and servicing diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and off-road equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina. What You'll Do: Assist diesel, trailer, and off-road equipment mechanics with inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs Perform routine servicing, including fueling, washing, greasing, and lubricating trucks, trailers, and off-road equipment Conduct basic maintenance and repair tasks on trailers, including brakes, lights, tires, air lines, suspension, and hub lubrication Perform preventive maintenance on off-road equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, and similar machinery Check and maintain fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, fuel) Inspect equipment and trailers for safety, operational, and DOT compliance issues and report deficiencies Perform oil changes, filter replacements, tire services, and basic adjustments Clean and maintain shop areas, tools, and service vehicles Safely operate equipment, service trucks, forklifts, and shop tools Identify mechanical or safety issues and communicate them to mechanics or supervisors Accurately complete service, fueling, and inspection documentation Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines What We Look For: Preferred Experience High school diploma or GED Entry-level position: prior mechanical experience helpful but not required Willingness to learn diesel, trailer, and off-road equipment maintenance and repair Ability to use basic hand tools or learn quickly Requirements Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases). Valid driver’s license, CDL preferred. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
