SUMMARY

Under the general direction of and reporting to the Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
National Power, LLC will provide the necessary training to help the Service Technician develop his skillset in Power Generation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an Electrical/Mechanical related field preferred.
  • US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred

SKILLS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed.
  • Must be able to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
  • Must have an excellent driving record and have a valid driver’s license. The job WILL require driving long distances to job sites, and overnight stays in hotels 1-3 nights (but not limited to) a week may also be required. Company would cover costs of hotels and provides a meal allowance per company guidelines.
  • Must have good computer skills and be comfortable with Microsoft software to include Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe (PDF’s).
  • The technician would work from home and would ensure proper vehicle maintenance is performed, required parts inventory is maintained, ensure security of Company property to include cell phone, laptop computer, specialty tools and any other item assigned.
  • Works with a supervisor to handle challenging customer interactions; Helps respond to customer needs in a timely manner; Collects customer feedback when asked; Assists with service requests; Follows through on basic commitments.
  • Helps identify solutions during urgent situations or when working with limited resources, under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Training will be provided. The employee may be required to attend training courses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in addition to other training as needed and required.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality and safety.
Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assist experienced technicians with basic maintenance on generators of various sizes. Learn about Automatic Transfer Switches and their components. Help with routine preventative maintenance tasks such as changing oil and filters. Observe troubleshooting processes for AC and DC circuits while learning to identify basic components under supervision.
2. Support Lead technicians during engine repair work. Learn to identify basic engine components including ignition systems and fuel systems. Observe proper valve adjustment techniques and other routine maintenance procedures.
3. Participate in load bank testing under direct supervision to learn proper testing procedures and how to verify generators meet operating standards.
4. Work alongside experienced technicians on larger projects to gain hands-on experience while providing basic assistance as directed.
