The Integrated Materials & Structures Technology Team within Boeing Technology Innovation is seeking an Entry-Level Manager - Structural Composites Development & Demonstration to join our team in St. Louis (Berkeley), MO. This team is part of the Composites, Materials, & Structures organization within BTI and this group has a dual mission to 1) Execute Research and Development in the technical area of next-generation thermoset composites, with a particular focus on BDS relevant materials and 2) Develop and mature applications for these new materials through advanced design and manufacturing demonstrator programs to de-risk and accelerate adoption by BDS programs.
This entry-level manager will have the primary responsibility to grow and maintain a technical team consisting of Materials, Process, & Physics (MP&P) engineers, Structural Design Engineers, Technical Analysts, as well as a composite material and fabrication development lab. They will be responsible for the execution of internally and externally funded R&D projects as well as coordinating program support assignments for the team members. The core areas of technical interest for this group include BDS relevant composite materials, higher temperature capable polymer matrix composites, and development of next-generation composite materials (structural laminates, cores, adhesives, etc.) along with tailored composite fabrication methods, tooling, and design techniques. This team works directly and seamlessly with a collocated team of structural analysts to execute integrated materials & structures work statements.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical experience in composite material development, qualification, and application to aerospace programs while also having familiarity with structural design and analysis disciplines. They will bring experience interfacing with external stakeholders including material suppliers and DoD customers and a track record of successful CRAD project development and execution.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in leading research programs
  • Experience leading technical teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Advanced Engineering degree
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Technical background in aerospace composite material development, qualification, and application
  • Experience with Boeing material and fabrication specifications and associated systems
  • Experience with advanced composite structural design and analysis methods
  • Experience developing relationships with material suppliers
  • CRAD program development and capture experience

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Required

Responsibilities
  • Execute Research and Development on developing next-generation thermoset composites materials and maturing applications with advanced design and manufacturing demonstrators
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with BDS Phantom Works, Air Dominance, SI&WS, Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers, and Vertical Lift programs and stakeholders
  • Identify technology gaps and develop a team and project plans to address those gaps
  • Work with senior leaders to develop long range technology plans and technology development roadmaps
  • Grow capabilities in higher temperature polymer matrix composites
  • Work with suppliers to develop the next generation of composite materials, adhesives, cores, etc.
  • CRAD program shaping, winning, and execution with USG partners
