Job Description AECOM is seeking a versatile and analytical Sustainability and Climate Consultant to join our Technical Advisory team in Raleigh, NC. The successful candidate will support a range of climate mitigation, decarbonization, resilience, and sustainability projects—translating complex challenges into actionable strategies for public and private sector clients. Key Responsibilities As a Sustainability and Climate Consultant, you’ll be expected to: Sustainability & Decarbonization Advisory Support the development of Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG inventories in alignment with voluntary and regulatory standards (e.g., GHG Protocol). Assist in identifying and evaluating decarbonization mechanisms and technologies, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, low-carbon fuels, CCUS, and hydrogen. Contribute to sector-specific mitigation strategies (e.g., shore power, fleet electrification). Assist in modeling GHG reduction scenarios and setting science-based targets. Analyze sustainability data (e.g., utility, waste) to inform strategy and action plans. Prioritize emissions reduction actions based on feasibility, cost-benefit, and impact. Climate Resilience Support climate risk assessments and communicate key findings from climate models. Evaluate resilience strategies for natural hazard mitigation and adaptation. Contribute to resilience planning and prioritization frameworks. Consulting & Project Delivery Conduct research and analysis to support strategy formulation. Assist in preparing client deliverables, including reports, memos, and presentations. Participate in client meetings and contribute to stakeholder engagement efforts. Cross-Cutting Support Contribute to projects involving strategy, climate risk, and sustainability performance. Integrate climate and sustainability considerations into infrastructure and energy projects. Stay current on climate disclosure frameworks (e.g., CDP, TCFD, SBTi) and emerging policy trends. Support ESG strategy development and performance tracking. Core Consulting Competencies All Technical Advisory team members are expected to: Adaptable to work fluctuations to meet deliverable needs and occasionally work outside of traditional working hours when needed to support global teams and clients. Structure and organize ambiguous problems and information, acting independently to drive progress. Create and execute project plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes. Use data, logic, and sound reasoning to make informed decisions under pressure. Synthesize complex content into clear, actionable insights—both written and verbal. Deliver polished work products including presentations, models, and reports. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Public Policy, or a related field. Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required. Strong analytical and writing skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Preferred Qualifications Prior work experience in management consulting, strategy, finance, or related fields is a plus. Experience supporting GHG inventories and climate strategy development. Familiarity with ESG frameworks and climate disclosure standards. Exposure to infrastructure, energy, or public sector projects. Experience in a consulting environment with client-facing responsibilities. Interest in broader sustainability topics such as water resources, circular economy, embodied carbon, and environmental justice. Portuguese proficiency.
