Description An Environmental Services Assistant performs a variety of cleaning duties. The person will be responsible for maintaining assigned areas in a neat and sanitary condition by following appropriate schedules and utilizing proper infections control and safety standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital. Complete daily assignments, which include sweeping, mopping, polishing, dusting scouring, scrubbing, and disinfecting. Collects trash and linen from assigned areas and deposits in an appropriate place for pick-up or removal. Stock towels, soap, and other supply items as needed. Clean and stock housekeeping carts and janitor closets. Uses and disposes of chemicals according to directions. Complete additional assignments such as washing windows inside and outside, washing walls, ceilings, vents, and light fixtures. Performs floor maintenance including stripping, waxing, and buffing. Maintains a record of all supplies used. Assist with Plant Operation Projects as directed. Maintains an orderly condition of assigned work area. Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physician related information Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Completes assigned daily duties. Willingly accepts reassignment to other duties if necessary. Follows expected work practices. Displays thoroughness and accuracy of work. Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment. Well organized, accepts assignments willingly and accomplishes them quickly. Anticipates problems and suggests solutions. Helps with not specifically assigned duties. Works steadily and always keeps busy. Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric Ability to work well with a diverse work team. Ability to work under pressure with time constraints. Ability to concentrate. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good mental health and emotional maturity. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None Requirements EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. High School Diploma or GED Preferred. Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions. Housekeeping/janitorial experience is preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None PHYSICAL DEMANDS Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking. Required to climb, balance, stoop and kneel. Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. May be required to operate machinery, such as floor scrubbers or buffers. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases. Could be subject to mechanical hazards. Requires working in hot and cold temperatures. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
