ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or IEMA certificate in environmental management (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in an environmental discipline ideally within a manufacturing or research environment
  • A strong understanding of ISO14001 standard including experience in the certification process.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • IEMA full membership.
  • Audit trained.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The salary for this role is £50,311. Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

THE ROLE

As Environment & Sustainability Advisor, you will be providing technical expertise in the management and continuous improvement of the UKAEAs environmental management system including statutory reporting. You will also be supporting E&S Manager in the development and implementation of the UKAEA environmental sustainability strategy.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting the management of the site’s environmental management system in accordance with the requirement of the UKAEA’s internal documentation and ISO14001.
  • Providing advice to operational staff for the endorsement of work with a significant environmental impact and ensure adequate controls are in place to reduce liability.
  • Futureproofing UKAEA by supporting the identification of new and changing environment legislation relevant to UKAEA and demonstration of compliance. This includes the preparation of accurate reports to external regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting the generation of appropriate environmental performance dashboards.
  • Responsibility for UKAEA reporting requirements in relation to permit compliance and sustainability, including statutory submissions to the Environment Agency and DESNZ
  • Raising awareness of environmental issues and promote ‘best practice’ across site, including overseeing, developing and delivering appropriate training courses.
