An IT Environment Lead Engineer, or Technology Environment Lead is a role focused on the oversight and management of IT environments, including both production and non-production (test, development, etc.) environments. This role ensures these environments are properly configured, maintained, and fit for purpose to support various development, testing, and operational activities. The role also involves defining environment strategy, managing the creation and support of environments, and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Environment Strategy and Planning:
Defining and implementing the overall IT environment strategy in coordination with Release, QA, and system administrators.
Environment Management:
Overseeing the lifecycle of IT environments, including planning, setup, maintenance, optimization, and decommissioning.
Team Leadership:
Leading and managing a team of engineers, providing guidance and support, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Collaborating with various stakeholders, including development, testing, and operations teams, to understand their environment requirements and ensure alignment.
Environment Provisioning and Support:
Managing the provisioning and support of application environments for delivery teams, including data refreshes and sanitization.
Release Management Support:
Supporting release and deployment activities, including planning, coordination, and go-live operations.
Automation and Optimization:
Implementing and enhancing automation strategies to streamline environment build, test, and release processes.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Providing reports on environment utilization, availability, and forward planning schedules.
Compliance and Governance:
Ensuring environments adhere to relevant regulations and policies.
Continuous Improvement:
Championing continuous improvement initiatives, such as DevOps and CI/CD practices.
Essential Skills:
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, GCP), operating systems, databases, and networking.
Project Management: Excellent project management skills, including planning, execution, and risk management.
Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex environment-related issues.
Leadership and Mentoring: Ability to lead and motivate a team, providing guidance and support.
Adaptability and Innovation: Ability to adapt to changing technologies and implement innovative solutions.
Exposure to workflow: background and/or understanding of Pega development.
