About the role In this role you will utilise your strategic outlook and problem-solving skills to develop innovative programs to protect endangered species.  You will also apply your knowledge of pest animal management to deliver programs and your communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders, community groups and environmental agencies. Key responsibilities include: * Contribute to the retention, protection, enhancement, and re-vegetation of native vegetation, with a goal of improving the extent and quality of habitat and biodiversity values (flora and fauna). * Assist with the development and review of Council’s programs related to environment and biodiversity. * Manage a range of key environmental projects and tasks relating to environment and biodiversity including threatened species management; pest plant and animal control; training, education and engagement programs with internal and external stakeholders; contractor and consultant management. * Oversee the management and handover of developer funded nature reserves. * Assist in the management of the Point Waterway. * Proactively engage and plan programs with a range of key internal and external stakeholders including catchment networks and government agencies. * Actively engage and support relevant community groups including Friends of Groups, Coastcare and Landcare. About you To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field – i.e., natural resource management, environment science and extensive experience in project management. Essential: * Demonstrated experience protecting and enhancing biodiversity values with a goal of improving their extent, quality and amenity. * Demonstrated experience in project and contractor management. * Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, both verbally and in writing. * Experience providing strategic and policy advice on environment and biodiversity issues. * Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with a range of stakeholders, both external and internal, to achieve optimal outcomes. * Demonstrated knowledge of local government’s role and responsibility relating to environment and biodiversity. * Act as a Council Representative on Environment and Biodiversity Committees. * Support the delivery of other environment and biodiversity programs across the Unit.
