ENABLING, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER - BALFOUR BEATTY (@ONE ALLIANCE)

Location: Peterborough / Hybrid
@one Alliance a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and seven industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.
As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period, we are preparing to undertake our largest project yet. This is a unique opportunity to drive industry change, set global standards, and foster career growth.
We’re passionate about keeping our people safe, happy, and thriving – which is why we’re strengthening our SHEA (Safety, Health, Environment and Assurance) team with a dedicated Enabling, Environment and Sustainability Manager.
You’ll be part of a collaborative team delivering impactful projects that improve lives and protect the environment. You’ll work alongside industry leaders in a culture that truly prioritises wellbeing, safety, and personal growth.
What you’ll be doing

As a visible champion of our Safer Everyday strategy, you’ll:

  • Provide end-to-end leadership across all aspects of environmental consenting, permitting and auditing in project delivery, driving consistency and clarity in approach
  • Review and approve all @one Alliance Enabling Risk assessments, ensuring full understanding and mitigation of outstanding risks.
  • Support governance processes and escalation procedures for business-critical issues.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the Alliance Management System (AMS), keeping it aligned with current legislation and best practice.
  • Promote and ensure environmental compliance across all activities through regular audits, inspections, and quality reviews.

What you’ll bring:

  • Solid knowledge of environmental management in the construction or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of relevant environmental legislation.
  • Experience with partner organisation and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills—collaborative, trustworthy, and respected.
  • Strategic problem-solving ability with a big-picture perspective.
