OVERVIEW

Are you looking to join a team that helps connect Vermonters in need with services and resources to assist them with addressing environmental violations? Are you interested in helping Vermonters understand environmental rules and regulations?
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking a versatile and driven candidate to join our team in the Environmental Assistance Office, a program that focuses on proactively working with the public to prevent environmental violations through effective outreach and engagement with individuals and communities.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Communicating with the public on their questions about DEC’s permits, programs, and regulations.
  • Administering the Healthy Homes Initiative, including creating program documents, forms, and outreach materials; running annual award cycles; drafting award letters, contracts, and grants; reviewing and approving deliverables and invoices; creating standard operating procedures; and tracking projects and performance measures.
  • Creating and maintaining outreach materials, guides, and trainings.
  • Working with internal program staff and external partners to develop and update the program.

This position is a limited-service position, meaning that funding is approved for a term. Benefits and pay are identical to a permanent service position. The current term for the position is authorized until December 31, 2026.
Work is accomplished primarily in a standard office setting but can require travel to various meetings or site visits, for which access to reliable transportation for in-state travel may occasionally be necessary. This work is performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Assistance Office Program Manager.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field.
OR
Three (3) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.
