YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Stantec is currently seeking an Environmental Assessment Coordinator to provide technical support on environmental projects with focus on environmental assessments under the Federal and British Columbia Environmental Assessment Acts.
This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of technical, permitting and approval requirements. We provide integrated, multidisciplinary services to identify and assess liabilities and risks. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources management, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, environmental monitoring, in-situ/ex-situ remedial design and implementation, human health and ecological risk assessments, air quality permitting and reporting, pipeline compliance, stormwater permitting and planning, and audit support services.
We are looking for a well-organized and enthusiastic individual who will work closely with Project Managers and be part of a multidisciplinary project team. The ideal candidate is a great communicator with a basic understanding of the federal and provincial environmental assessment process, who can not only support the operational management but also technical components of the project. The role also provides a great opportunity to support an environmental assessment from the start with an option to continue working on the file throughout the full lifecycle of the project.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

  • Strong interpersonal and social skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/ technical backgrounds including internal and external clients and regulatory agencies;
  • Basic knowledge of the federal and provincial environmental assessment process and experience working on environmental assessments or permitting in British Columbia
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and strong verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work with multiple teams and on multiple deadlines;
  • Provide support with organizing and documenting meetings, following-up on action items;
  • Organize and share information effectively amongst different disciplines;
  • Support quality assurance and control aspects of the project;
  • Strong data analysis, record keeping/ tracking, and computer skills (Microsoft Office including Work, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate;
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems;
  • Licensed to operate a motor vehicle or capable of obtaining license; Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor or graduate degree in environmental planning/science, biology, engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience of coordinating environmental projects
  • Previous experience in the energy sector is an asset
    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Occasional field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
