POSITION SUMMARY

Assists with coordinating and negotiating compliance with environmental laws in support of DMW projects. Proficient with federal, state, and local laws related to environmental protection and development of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional properties for public and private clients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Estimated Percent (%) of Time Conducts field work to delineate regulated natural resources. Performs non-tidal wetland delineations, forest stand delineations, natural resources inventories. Conducts mitigation and reforestation monitoring for projects. Participates in project meetings to discuss recommendations on how to meet federal, state, and local regulations to accomplish project objectives. 40%
Under supervision, prepares plans, reports, memos, permit applications and other correspondence to advise/guide the planning and design process. Prepares reforestation plans, wetland mitigation plans, and other planting plans with guidance. Meets project deadlines. 40%
Assists with the application process to obtain regulatory approvals of field delineations and adjust wetland delineation as necessary to obtain approval. Under supervision conducts negotiations to obtain approval of impacts to regulated natural resources. 10%

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/ MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological or physical sciences. •
  • Ability to identify plants, describe soil conditions, and understand ecological principles. •
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and policies through education or on the job experience.
  • Basic level CAD experience through education or on the job training. •
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly persuasive writing skills. •
  • Ability to work alone outdoors for long periods carrying equipment and performing physical labor.
  • May be subject to background check, fingerprinting, completing safety programs, and drug testing.

Physical Demands: •

  • Occasionally: performs physical labor to include lifting up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. •
  • Frequently: standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, eye/hand/foot coordination, handling, grasping, repetitive motions.

Work Environment:•

  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods carrying equipment in conditions that occasionally involve extreme heat/cold, temperature changes, humidity, noise and occasionally involve wet conditions, vibration, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
