EDUCATION:

A degree from a recognized institute of environment, geography, science, or its equivalent in experience, additional education and/or recognized training. OR
A diploma from a recognized institute of environment, geography, science, or its equivalent in experience, additional education and/or recognized training.

EXPERIENCE:

With a degree: 3 years of relevant environmental experience with a demonstrated increase in responsibility
With a diploma: 3 to 5 years of relevant environmental experience with a demonstrated increase in responsibility

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

A valid Ontario class “G” (or equivalent) driver’s license.
Experience in inspecting and/or auditing licensed facilities or activities.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently without direct guidance or supervision.
The ability to work effectively , manage conflicting priorities, and maintain good working relationships with team members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Computer operating skills and familiarity with MS Office software and other applicable software utilized at CNL.
Ability to prioritize work based on the changing demands of the project.

JOB/INDUSTRY SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and its Regulations.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System requirements and a general familiarity with ISO 14001 requirements.
Strong familiarity with multi-disciplinary environmental investigations, and good familiarity with construction and/or engineering project work.
Multi-tasking, organizing priorities and managing time to meet deadlines.
Adaptive, able to respond to changing conditions quickly.
Demonstrated personal accountability.
What will you be doing!
Providing support and guidance to Port Hope staff on interpretation of regulatory requirements, compliance program requirements and company-wide requirements as needed.
Reviewing Contractor submissions to ensure that they align with CNL procedures and regulatory requirements.
Focusing on providing oversight on Project and operational compliance with regulatory requirements by performing inspections of Port Hope Area Initiative sites and Contractors and by evaluating implementation of compliance programs.
Performing trending analysis on non-conformances, corrective actions, ImpActs and other elements as needed.
Interfacing with CNSC or other regulatory staff as required.
Identifying non-conforming conditions and ensuring that the responsible party takes corrective action, particularly if the non-conformances relate to recurring issues.
Escalating issues to the Environmental Compliance Lead and/or the Manager, HWP Environmental Management.
Updating and revising environmental procedures or plans as required to support and remain compliant with CNL’s environmental monitoring requirements.
Aiding project teams and leading environmental compliance projects to better understand process upsets and trends in recurring issues.
Assisting and/or leading in preparing requests for information, reports, actions, inspections and meetings.
Actively reviewing project-related environmental data for trends and report summaries to the Environmental Compliance Lead and/or Manager, HWP Environmental Management.
Preparing summary reports, memoranda or briefing notes regarding environmental issues or events.
Working closely with the Environmental Specialist, Permitting/Integration to combine project data with regulatory requirements to contextualize information before presentation to the Environmental Compliance Lead and/or Manager, HWP Environmental Management.
Ensuring compliance with CNL health and safety protocols.
Working safely with field and laboratory instruments and applying known or developing new techniques.
Ensuring a high quality of work performed by self and others.
Executing complex technical work under the general guidance of the Environmental Compliance Lead, such as:
Documenting, forecasting, reporting, investigating and interpreting moderately complex results and providing recommendations.
Prioritizing tasks and deliverables according to defined timelines.
Coordinating and facilitating the transfer of information to inform decision-making.
Identifying, addressing and resolving moderately complex issues.
Complying with quality assurance standards and troubleshooting when issues arise.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
